Aligning Community Resources for Prevention: A Geospatial Analysis of Risk and Protective Community Factors
Room: Maryland C
Presenters: Carl Ayers, Virginia Department of Social Services; Dyann Daley, M.D., Predict Align Prevent
Predictive analytics is a growing trend in child welfare. Geospatial analytics is a model that uses location-based data to assess risk prior to a child entering the child welfare system, reflecting the national trend and movement towards early identification and prevention of child abuse. Geospatial analytics uses location-based data to build maps, which have been successful in identifying the geographic locations of future child maltreatment. Community members and stakeholders identify existing services and the gaps in services for the high-risk locations. Engaging a variety of community members and stakeholders redefines the responsibility of protecting children to all community members.

Predict-Align-Prevent, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and Urban Spatial hosted a kick-off call to launch our new, open source predictive tools to help in the fight against child maltreatment. Combining spatial analytics with cutting edge machine learning techniques, this framework allows communities to explore administrative data and forecast maltreatment risk across space.
This Penn professor’s geospatial tool predicts where child maltreatment will happen
Ken Steif, the director of University of Pennsylvania’s Master of Urban Spatial Analysis program, has been working with Texas nonprofit Predict Align Prevent on a framework that considers privacy and proximity to community resources.
In anticipation of her upcoming conference presentation at Predictive Analytics World Las Vegas, June 16-20, 2019, Dyann Daley MD, Founder and CEO at Predict-Align-Prevent sat down for an interview to discuss her presentation, Finding At-Risk Children with Geospatial Machine Learning.

Open Source Community Kick-off: Online Conferences
Predict-Align-Prevent, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and Urban Spatial are excited to release new, open source predictive tools to help in the fight against child maltreatment. Combining spatial analytics with cutting edge machine learning techniques, this framework allows communities to explore administrative data and forecast maltreatment risk across space.
PAP and Urban Spatial look forward to seeing others adopt the open source codebase to replicate this work in communities nationwide. Two online conferences on March 25th and 26th will be hosted to launch the open source community around the software and methods.
